I couldn't tell what was the common thread about what you're looking for if you're gong to spend that much time writing about somebody. I really look for people who seem interesting and who have, this is going to be such a bland answer, but just people who seeminteresting. And maybe that means that they're like, an emerging celebrity or an elder statesman, or somewhere in between. You know, there are people that are household names and people that i think a lot of folks would have never heard of.

”There's an interesting moment that's part of this job where you’ve spent a lot of time with someone and it often feels very personal and very intimate. And then when you go to write the piece, you have to sort of take a breath and say to yourself, Okay, I'm not writing this for this person. I'm writing this for the reader.”
