The American Revolution Was a Political Revolution

The 16 forties and 16 fifties in britain were clearly a political revolution. But was it a revolution? Or just a civil war that has been anachronistically labelled a revolution? The men and women who lived through the period often referred to it as simply 'the late troubles' So what do we call it? Every possible label fails to capture some essential element of the story.
