How Can We Build Technology That Acts on People?

Right now we're building technology from the perspective of how can i get people to look more, buy more, click more. But what if we build technologies that allow people to act? I know it's tat, it's heresy, but technologies that are like tools that people could use to accomplish things they want to do or get done would just be interesting. Even if it's hypothetical like a shovel, right? It helps people dig holes. A telephone helps a person talk to another person far away. A television lets someone see something that's happening somwhere else. And as long as you don't worry about any limits on our physical reality, you can keep going that way.
