Amazon is a company that defines itself by its willingness to invent and fail, says Jeff Bezos. Amazon's e-book business required months of work with publishers before it could be launched in the U.S. The first service that AWS released or one of the first services which at the time, Jeff and the team thought would be one of the biggest called Mechanical Turk never really took off. It wasn't until the team focused on services like S3, Simple Storage and EC2 compute services that they figured out what kind of aid services they really needed to build.
