There's a lot more that you can put into your speech, the inflection, pacing, etc. That's going to communicate something differently than if you had have written the thing down and sent to them. It is really kind of disheartening that after 2000 years, we still haven't nailed down this baptism thing, which is the means by which we're saved. Some Protestants think yes, something knows, something yes for specific people. All of these things that are stumbling blocks today just were not so in the first millennium.
