"My politics were framed by how I was raised, you know, in Washington, DC in the sixties," he says. "Being called cracker and Bama and being beaten up upon because you were white as I was when I was a little kid was really politicizing" He recalls cops coming up to him knowing who he was and saying a lot of things with expletives.
