Pancho Barnes, a Young Tomboy

Florence Leontyne Lowe was born on July 22, 1901. Her grandfather Thaddeus S.C. Lowe founded the Army of the Potomac's Balloon Corps. He also inspired this young tomboy to dream of her own life among the clouds. Pancho Barnes ran away from home in Southern California when she was just 12 years old and rode a horse to Tijuana.
