The Asp and Cleopatra's Death

Plutarch gives us the story of the Asp, but he uses that it is said, which is a way out of confirming something. It is said that the Asp was brought with those figs and leaves and laid hidden beneath them. Cleopatra had given orders that the reptile might fasten itself upon her body without her being aware of it. The truth of the matter, no one knows. And that's the important part of it all, I think.
