The Importance of Relatives Once or Twice Removed
Cousins once or twice removed are distant cousins that you have no idea who they are. They're from another generation past, and it's all to do with the generation. So for example, I have my mum's first cousin but she is my cousin once removed because she's from the previous generation. This is only for describing things in the greater detail.
