There were baskets with burnt bones, labs with licked leeks and collies with cornbread. Dexter the Bulldog managed an entire tray of perfectly formed deviled eggs. More and more dogs arrived until the alley was jammed snout to butt. And right then, from the far end of the alley, a door banged open. Outstepped,. the oldest and ugliest man the dogs had ever seen.
