The idea that this whole grand experiment essentially died as it was born with these two future Hall of Famers calling all of the shots seems telling to me. The extreme climb to that mountaintop was so hard and so remarkable and such an accomplishment in so many ways. Ultimately, you don't win titles for having press conferences with star players that you've acquired. It just didn't happen. And so to crush it all down for the Nets, even though they feel like they did get a ransom for Durant in a reasonable hall for Kyrie considering that he has only got a few months left on his contract, it was a very melancholy feeling in Brooklyn.
