Students Demanding Political Rights on Campus
Berkeley had a rule that there could be no political activity on campus. Students were pretty active off campus, and began to recruit students of for political activities on the campus. The administration called in the campus police to a shut down a table where people had been recruiting students for off campus ical activities. And all of a sudden, thousands of students surrounded the police car so he couldn't leave the campus, couldn't move. Thousands of students are sitting down in the middle of the campus at berkeley, refusing to let this police car move. They sat there for a day and a half. This was the first time it was directed against a university. There had been political activities before,
