There's no evidence to suggest that five days of fasting once a year is beneficial, says Dr Lik. But for something like fasting, missing 15 meals out of a thousand, yes, it can make sense - but only if you have an auto immune disease such as reumatory arthritis. This gets back to the first point of, will we ever have evidence base, guidelines to support this? I think it's impossible, not improbable," he said.
