PayPal was a place where many ideas about creating companies were tested. Many different iterations and permutations of things you would try to achieve product market fit were tested. The equity was so diluted by the time the company IPOed, very few people had sort of like otherworldly, multi-generational wealth at the end of it. There were too many investors, too many people on the cap table, too much equity distributed to employees.
