Fritz Lang's Man Hunt
Lang said his intent in making the film was to create a picture of a society in the grip of self-destructive urges. The letter M represents most obviously murder, but also the lines on the palm of every hand have the letter M on it, which is the line of fate. Lang's cinema increasingly becomes a cinema of traces, inscriptions, marks, things left behind, and often related to crime. But there is also a hunt. One of his anti-Nazi films in Hollywood is called Man Hunt.
