Socratic Questioning Dissuades Clinicians From Asking Questions

The fact that affirmative therapy dissuades clinicians from asking questions that might be uncomfortable for a person to hear is really troubling. Samaritans if you're in the Samaritans they'll give you a therapeutic support and they will not be trained therapists so it's very very comforting. If you'd ring them up you'd say I'm in deep distress and they will make an awful lot of very gentle soothing words and noises and comments and phrases. They'll reflect back what you've said but they will never add anything new because their therapeutic support.
