The Idea Factory by John Gertner
Aaron Carroll: I read a book called The Idea Factory by John Gertner. Bell Labs was the second largest employer in the United States behind the federal government. They developed, God, laser, the laser, touch tone dialing and long distance phone calls. So much of modern life was built at Bell Laboratories. And one of the figures in the book is Claude Shannon. He says it's disappointing that someone so impressive doesn't have a biography of him.
