The Predictive Power of Words

The brain is always reassembling past experiences for the purposes of predicting, anticipating what you're going to see next. The research shows early as three months, infants start using words before they understand their meanings. So really every time you label or explain a child's state to them, you are instructing them. And I don't think we think about it that way very much.
