Given the diminished power of committees, even being on a committee might not necessarily mean that your member has time to read a bill and have hearings about a bill. The other thing is that not all committees are equally important in terms of advancing key pieces of legislation because of their jurisdictions. So there's a lot of ways, I think, to engage with committees that don't have to go through your member.
