Is There a Signal Versus Noised in Financial Markets?
Iman: Financial engineering creates more complexity, makes things more tightly coupled. If there's one problem, it propagates out before you can control it to others and basically makes the markets riskier. In my book, a demon of our own design, i would put them in quotes, the innovations we get actually, are things that make the markets typically riskier. The way you make money in the market is to add complexity, which only you understand. And sort of kind of throws dust in the eyes of everybody else, or allows you to act faster than other people do,. So when something happens, it moves from the next thing to the next before people can take over you.
