Diocletian and Galerius - A Brief History

Galerius was born in thrace, rather than one of the illyrian provinces proper. He followed his father as a herdsman before deciding to join the army. In just a few years he went from new recruit to high ranking officer. And like isfuture colleague constantius, he was very possibly appointed pretorian prefect by the late two eightie a d serving under diocletian in the east. But beyond this, we know almost nothing about how galerius managed to distinguish himself when it came time for Diocletian to expand the imperial college.
