Serano: I'm a very utilitarian person. I want things to work. And it just works with no side effects. So pain control was a major part of my practice, which actually led me into working with opiate addicts and drug addicted adolescents. He says he has this feeling that in society, we are trying to avoid pain at all costs. At some level, pain is natural. It's a natural indicator of our body.
