Semmelweis's Life-Saving Doctrine
Semmelweis was a member of the old guard at the hospital who believed that new ideas were dangerous. His Hungarian-tinged accent made him a target for the xenophobic and superior Klein. The revolutions of 1848 made Semmelweis an even further scary, free-thinking liberal because he participated in these revolutions. He became on fire with this knowledge that this practice had the potential to change the world for the better.
