Philosopher David Wheeler: Mathematical arguments were utterly convincing if you understood them. And that's really important, because no other arguments anywhere seem to convince anyone of anything. He says when somebody learns mathematics they learn two things usually unless they're one of your fast-style child prodigy types who finds mathematics easy. The other thing is that when you get it, it's utterly convincing. You're not finding those kinds of things anywhere else. That's a property that needs explaining.
