The Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters

The Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porter's was the first African American labor union to be recognized by the American Federation of Labor. The Pullman Company put out its first sleeper car in 1865, but it wasn't really comfortable until an industrialist named George Pullman put his stamp on them. Today we're going to talk about one of these jobs, which was the Sleeping Car Porter. In the 1920s, Sleeping Car Porter’s successfully fought for better pay and working conditions.
