This shift might have set the stage for them to eventually evolve into dogs. Catherine is currently working with geneticists to find what genes are involved in this critical period. Eventually, if we can figure out genes or genetic mechanisms that are tied to this shift, and we could look at ancient remains,. That might help us get down to the question of where and when and how.
