The Three Elements of Indian Instrumental Music
Both Shankar and Aliak Bhaak Khan played a particular style of Hindustani classical music. Indian instrumental music has had much more influence on western popular music than Indian vocal music, so I'm mostly looking at that here. The result provides a very stripped precise formal structure for an infinitely varied form of expression, and Shankar was a master of it.
