Free democrats say we don't have to fade out regular cars. In fact, we can use e-fueres instead - but what you're saying is it's not as simple as that. The FTP has an interest because they have been losing some very important regional elections in Germany. Politically, it's not going too well for them. They're down to about 5% in the general polls and are now looking for an issue that they can bring up where they can mobilise also their voter base. And they think that they have found it in this e-field debate.
