The Immediate Response of President Lula to the Protests
President Lula avoided using the military to restore order. He removed from office the governor, the recently elected governor of the federal district and the head of security. The government response was very moderate, but was enough to gain some control of the police. But as Thomas just mentioned, we had something like 2,000 people arrested,. 1,000 people are facing criminal lawsuits that will be ruled by the federal Supreme Court.
