The Importance of Orientalism in the Middle East
In the U.S., Said was beloved among Palestinians, but had a degree of enmity in Lebanon. He felt that an emphasis on arm struggle really played into the hands of the Israelis because there was no way to advertise their cause via violence. And so it's understandable why he was loathe to directly criticize some of the interpretations and misuses of his work. But if you read some of his later essays, it's clear that he had reservations.
