The Importance of the Afterlife
1 Corinthians 3, verses 11 through 15 is St. Augustine's favorite text on purgatory. If anyone builds on that foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, each man's work will become manifest for the day of judgment. Some of them are going to burn up, and some would endure if they were done out of pure motives.
