"There's a big difference between, again, fan fiction that was written 30 years after the person you're writing about lived," he says. "Like this guy lived in a world where Descartes and Galileo were fairly new revolutionary ideas ... You had to like learn it through secret connections." He adds: "I just assumed that this came so much later... This guy had lifetimes to absorb all these different philosophies"
