The Problem With the Division of Labor
When the division of labor first began to take place, this power of exchanging must frequently have been very much clogged and embarrassed in its operations. One man has more of a certain commodity than he himself has occasion for, while another has less. So every one will inevitably start stock piling something they figure that everyone else is likely to want. Notice how, as in so many examples, we have a tendency to slip from imaginary savages to small town shopkeepers. It's only once we have expert arrow makers, wigwam makers and so on that people start realizing there's a problem.
