If this theory is true, then the speed of light sort of depends on the energy of the photons. It would require a real revolution in the way we think about the nature of the universe. Our current principles, general relativity and quantum mechanics, have completely incompatible assumptions at their foundation. And so to unify them, we are going to have to get rid of something that we cherish.
