The Criticism of Meritocracy

In any sensible society, in order to encourage and reward people's effort, you will have to have differential rewards. Criticisms of it seems to need to be more dangerous and less appealing than perhaps the meritocratic ideal is. The fact that we turn our abilities into achievements is a matter of work, hard work, putting your nose to the grindstone.
