Popper says Bacon and Descartes did not succeed in liberating knowledge from authority. Their ideas require us to shed all beliefs except those whose truth we have perceived ourselves, he writes. Popper argues that the very idea of objective truth involves a fallibility which is part of our human condition. He concludes by saying: "We must persistently search for it by searching for our errors, by tegable rational criticism"
