The author is working on a book about the third voyage, the final voyage, of captain cook. He was trying to get up and over alaska, or through alaska, and find the northwest passage. Along the way he stumbled upon this island called hawaii that wasn't on any maps. And so when the ice nearly trapped him in alaska, he decided,. i i got to go back south and winter somewhere warm.
