The Importance of Understanding Code

UX for me is balancing the technology, the business and users. And if we don't understand the technology, then we won't be able to have the right tools to accomplish what we're trying to accomplish. When I was programming in the 90s, improving the user experience was about fixing books. But from my viewpoint as a programmer who effectively designed as well, if I improved it for the user, if I made it faster, if I make it less buggy. If it didn't eat those requirements, it wasn't useful. That doesn't even our little interest say that.
