There's rejection and there's passive acceptance. What we want to shoot for here is radical acceptance. This example says Rachel is aware that she is not the most confidence person in the world. She realizes that her lack of self confidence is due to a long string of events influenced by her previous experiences and upbringing. Because she is accepting of the cards that she has been dealt, she is one able to see reality clearly and two move forward with the goal of improving her confidence in the future.
Carl Rogers said, “The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.” This is what radical acceptance means. Practicing radical acceptance won’t mean you’ll stay stuck, it's what will fuel the change you want.
