The Dedication of Steel Workers Park

In 2011, a three-day music festival called Dave Matthews Band Caravan was held in the former U.S. Steel South Works grounds. In August of 2013, developers and then Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced plans for up to 20,000 environmentally friendly homes there. Emerald Living also walked away from the project with a statement that hinted at quote, environmental issues. Unveiled at the event that day was a sculpture by South East Side artists Roman Villarreal and Roman Delion that greets visitors at the entrance to Steel Workers Park.
