Klaus Reimer was sent to a camp by his parents during the Second World War. Gunther from Essen travelled more than 600 kilometres to a camp in Czechoslovakia. By 1943, over 150,000 children had been evacuated from Berlin and Hamburg. Klaus joined the Volksstrüm, a militia made up of men who were too young or too old to serve in regular German army. On the way to our destination in Austria, our train was attacked in Linz - but now as a soldier he is safe.
