Body of Evidence: The First Major Studio Film With a Major Star
Body of Evidence was submitted to the MPAA for rating in the summer of 1992. Its makers were hoping for an R, but were not exactly shocked when the verdict came back as NC 17. Executive producer Stephen Deutsch set to work spinning the rating as testament to the film's must-see extremity. He suggested that if MGM ever wanted to try to test the market for a high-profile NC 17-rated film, this was their opportunity.
