English is my first language. I grew up just outside of ottawa, the capital of canada,. Studied at the university of toronto and then moved to england for a master's degree in history. And that is where i met an icelandic man who became president of ice in 20 16. As the spouse of the head of state, i have a very undefined roll, if you can even say a roll at all. There is no handbook for how to be the spouse of a head of state. So i like to look that as an opportunity to use this somewhat unexpected platform to speak out about issues that i think are important.
'Sprakkar' is an ancient Icelandic word meaning extraordinary or outstanding women. Rosamund Urwin from the Sunday Times joins Eliza to discuss the book, which tells the stories of Iceland’s women and also the country’s efforts to elevate them while striving for increased gender equality.
