The Importance of Preventing Squirrels
I've seen that mistake over and over again, where people have taken their dog to the woods and let them chase squirrels every day for a long period of time. Even with being really conscious about trying to prevent it from happening, you still get surprised, and there are birds everywhere. I wouldn't worry too much about a shepherd type. They are really trainable by simply telling them to stop. And if your dog is made for hunting, for example, a hound or a big little hound, basically a hunting dog, a gun dog breed, then it will come out eventually. You cannot totally prevent genetics.
