The Halo Effect for Bias

The good handwriting boosts the perception of other traits. This halo effect isn't just visible in lab experiments, it's visible in all walks of life. In a study conducted in 1982, psychologists found that when they submitted previously published articles to the same journals but under fake names and affiliations, very few editors actually realised that they had published the article already. Previously published papers were viewed as unworthy of publication simply because the editor didn't recognise the author's name. Even the most rigorous scientific reviews are massively swayed by the halo effect. Elizabeth Holmes chose to spend a large proportion of her career building her metaphoric halo. She did this mainly by attempting to emulate and associate herself with Apple
