Introduction

The house was quiet when the man pulled into the driveway on the afternoon of Monday, August 28, 2017. He was a family friend, there to pick up 14-year-old Charlotte Nye-writer to take her to swim practice. The stairwell leading upstairs was almost directly across from the front door, and the man saw a silhouette of a woman standing there on the stairs. It was a silhouette he recognized as that of his friend Michelle Nye-writing. But now she just seemed to be standing there in the gloomy house, not moving. At a glance, it looked like a suicide. Sadly, it wasn't the first time police had been to the house.
