In many ways, the language arts as they move along always change. This argument between false rhetoric and that which is used to authenticate or find true has always been there. It becomes much more pronounced in the suspicions of it towards the end of the 17th century. But equally then there's a very strong reassertion of wit and eloquence in the 18th century with a figure like Pope. That belief that form and matter go intrinsically together.
