The History of Cascascia, Illinois
The town of Safftinga was overcome by an enormous wave and was never seen again. Today the region is known as the Fear-Drunkenland, the Drowned Land. The settlement was a mixture of French-Canadian fur trappers, Jesuit missionaries, and local Native Americans. On foggy days, they say, you can still hear the bell toll.
