The Importance of a Communal Crypt

In the 19th century New Orleans, reusing graves was far more common. They would have these openings and that's where your body would go into. These could be stacked like three openings high as well so that you could have multiple people in this communal crypt at the same time. The grave would then be made a little bit deeper where your bones would be placed in there.
