CHAPTER

The Effects of Exercise on the Autonomic Nervous System

The autonomic nervous system is what controls your internal environment, and it's called homeostasis. We can increase our metablism ten or 20 fold with exercise, but our body temperature only rises a degree or two. And so this happens due to the actions of the autonomo-nervous system. There are two branches: sympathetic nerves and pari sympathetic nerves. They control part of your heart rate and make your heart rate slower; they also tend to lower blood pressure. The key thing to remember is that they help you regulate the internal environment,. Exercise really keeps these things tuned up.
